The United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) is a United Nations entity established in 1968 to support countries worldwide in preventing crime and facilitating criminal justice. UNICRI is mandated to assist intergovernmental, governmental and non-governmental organizations in formulating and implementing improved policies in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice. UNICRI” s goals are: – to advance understanding of crime-related problems; – to foster just and efficient criminal justice systems; – to support the respect of international instruments and other standards; – to facilitate international law enforcement cooperation and judicial assistance. This position is located in the UNICRI Rome Liaison Office. The UNICRI Rome Liaison Office liaises with the Host Country, the diplomatic corps, the academic and business sectors, the Rome-based UN agencies, and the civil society. In close cooperation with relevant counterparts, UNICRI Rome Liaison Office supports the communication for new projects; follows up on the ongoing projects financed by the Italian Foreign Ministry; facilitates meetings with Government officials for UNICRI’s programme managers; and represents UNICRI in events in Rome. UNICRI Rome Liaison Office works in close collaboration with HQ to implement visibility and advocacy activities, such as conferences and events, ad hoc meetings and short specialized courses to highlight UNICRI’s priority topics, maintains the website www.onuitalia.it (in Italian language) with the latest news on UNICRI activities, as well as news from the United Nations system. The internship is for an initial period of 2 months, starting, preferably in October 2025, with an opportunity for an extension up to a total period of six months. The Internship is UNPAID and full-time. Interns work five days per week (35 hours), supporting the Rome Liaison Office team. Applicants to this Internship position may be requested to undertake the internship by working partially remotely in telecommuting. Applicants must be willing and prepared to undertake the internship remotely and must have all necessary arrangements and equipment (including a computer and internet connection) to perform assignments in teleworking. Under the general supervision of the Rome Liaison Officer and the direct supervision of the Team Assistant, the incumbent will carry out the following tasks: – Translate press releases/articles/news related to UNICRI”s mandate, from English into Italian for the website www.onuitalia.it, from the official UNICRI website and other UN sources, research institutes, governmental and non-governmental organizations’ websites. – Assist in editing, updating and uploading news onto the website www.onuitalia.it. – Draft tweets in Italian for OnuItalia”s Twitter account and translate tweets posted on UNICRI”s Twitter account – Draft a daily press release with the major news from UN agencies and the international press – Conduct research and provide analysis on topics related to the UNICRI mandate collected as background documentation in support of institutional meetings, conferences and new areas of interest for UNICRI training activities. – Assist in drafting and preparing background documents, reports, issue briefs, talking points, articles, presentations etc, produced by the Rome Liaison Office. – Assist in the organization and implementation of the training activities organized in cooperation with UNICRI’s Partners in Rome. – Monitor regional and global news sources for articles and stories relevant to UNICRI’s projects, programmes, and Rome Liaison Office’s activities. – Assist in data collection and in maintaining databases concerning Ministries, Embassies, Special Missions, UN Agencies, Diplomatic Corps, AICS (the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation), press and media contacts. – Perform other job-related duties as assigned. The intern will work both at the Rome Liaison Office and from home.
