The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations system’s designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. Within UNEP’s Industry and Economy Division (IED), the Resources and Markets Branch (RMB) supports public policies and private-sector initiatives that advance efficient, clean and safe industrial production methods while creating the enabling conditions for sustainable consumption within value chains in high-impact sectors. The RMB hosts the Secretariat of the Green Growth Knowledge Partnership (GGKP), an initiative led by UNEP, UNIDO, the World Bank, the OECD and GGGI that aims at facilitating the sharing, promotion and application of green economy best practices and impactful solutions, capitalizing on the knowledge and experience generated across the globe by those who are leading the transition through innovative policy instruments, business models and technologies, financing mechanisms and investments, as well as through international cooperation and technical assistance. As an established global knowledge brokerage, GGKP’s mission is to empower government decision makers, companies and financial institutions with evidence-based knowledge that can best support them to contribute effectively to the green and circular economy transition. GGKP provides its best practice knowledge brokerage services through its three core platforms, the Green Policy Platform, the Green Industry Platform, and the Green Finance Platform, as well as its online interactive community space, the Green Forum. In addition to its three platforms and the Green Forum, GGKP also provides targeted knowledge management, communication and stakeholder engagement services for global projects funded under the Global Environment Facility (GEF). The internship is unpaid and full-time for a six-month period. Interns work five days per week. Under the direct supervision of the GGKP Coordinator, the intern will be responsible for the following tasks:
Students enrolled in a Master’s or PhD programme in international development or environmental studies, communications, marketing, design or related field preferred with a significant teamwork component.
