Duties and Responsibilities
Org. Setting and Reporting This individual contractor position is located within the Office of Environmental Monitoring and Mineral Resources (OEMMat the Headquarters of the International Seabed Authority (ISin Kingston, Jamaica. Purpose The Individual consultant will assist with the effective implementation of the data management strategic roadmap by enhancing the performance of the Database Team. The consultant will play a role in improving data integrity, efficiency, and availability, thereby advancing the overall data management strategy and ensuring that data operations align with organizational goals and best practices. The consultant will assist with optimizing the flow of information within the team, focusing on crucial activities such as data transformation, historic data processing, and report completion. This includes providing technical and administrative support during and beyond ISA sessions, ensuring that data processes meet high standards of accuracy and timeliness as we serve our stakeholders. In addition, the consultant will support the objective of improving data governance and quality, assist with the Extract, Transform, and Load (ETprocesses, and support various other workshops, conferences and Secretariat programs. Duties and responsibilities Under the overall guidance of the Director, OEMMR and the direct supervision of the Database Manager and within delegated authority, the Information Management Assistant will be responsible for the following duties: Support the maintenance of the internal database and file management system. Supports the implementation of the Authority’s data management strategic roadmap and data policies. Respond in person and/or virtually to the needs of internal and external clients experiencing issues related to the Authority’s databases. Assist with the Extraction, Transformation and Loading (ETof data in accordance with ISA data management strategic roadmap. Digitize information (hard copy documents, data contained in a variety of formatinto the ISA established format and standard established for the database. Perform regular and ad hoc data quality control checks ensuring completeness, accuracy and relevance of data received. Execute daily checklist of routine maintenance tasks related to data management system and its components; maintain detailed records for compliance monitoring. Create metadata in accordance with ISA data management strategic roadmap to appropriately catalogue data and be able to respond to requests for information and access to relevant files in a timely manner. Ensure compliance with ISA database information security protocols. Perform database backup for electronic data management system in close coordination with the Office of Administrative Services (Communications and Information Technology tea. Perform archiving of obsolete data and ensure data storage capacity is optimized as per ISA data and records management policies. Effectively deliver a wide range of data administration tasks ensuring that database systems are kept up to date and accurate ExperienceA minimum of five (5) years of experience in data, information management, digital data entry, database administration, GIS or related area is required.Experience in providing administrative support for senior officials in the UN or comparable organization is desirable.Experience working with Microsoft SQL Server and geographic information systems (GIis desirable.Experience working with taxonomic data is desirableExperience working with geological data is desirable.Experience in a multinational working environment is desirable.Knowledge of geodatabase systems, software programming languages and web and web technology is desirable.Knowledge of FME Workbench, web programming, Microsoft Excel and powerShell would be an asset.
Qualifications/special skills
A university degree in Information technology or equivalent is required
Languages
English and French are the working languages of ISA. Fluency in written and oral English is required. Knowledge of other United Nations official languages is highly desirable.
