Duties and Responsibilities
The UN Resident Coordinator leads the UN Country Team in China, including all the UN entities present in China, and represents the UN Secretary General to the Government of China. The purpose of the Resident Coordinator system (RC System) is to bring together the different UN agencies to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of operational activities at the country level, helping the UN to be a more relevant and reliable partner for governments. The UN Resident Coordinator Office (RCO) supports the roles and functions of the UN Resident Coordinator and UN Country Team. The RCO provides inter-agency coordination support to the UN Country Team (UNCT) and its various inter-agency working mechanisms, including theme groups. Key functions of the RCO include: strategic analysis, planning and positioning of the Country Team; preparation and monitoring of the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework(UNCF); support to joint UN programming and operations management; policy guidance; joint advocacy and communications (e.g. the management of the UN in China website and production of joint communications materials), in order to enhance UN coherence and improve overall program impact of the UN System in China. The internship is UNPAID and full-time. The minimum duration of an internship is two months and can be extended up to a total period of six months. Interns work five days per week (37.5 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the division or office to which they are assigned. Responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to: Human Resources: 1.Provide support to talent outreach campaigns and initiatives to attract and retain a diverse workforce 2.Provide support on labour market research and the draft data-based report 3.Provide support on managing HR Files 4.Provide support to HR actions in UMOJA system Planning and Organizing: 1.Provide support on communication with various stakeholders 2.Provide support on coordination throughout Entities and Member States 3.Provide support on organizing training programmes and activities 4.provide support on drafting speeches and presentations Administration: 1.Provide support to Admin actions in Unite/UMOJA system 2.Provide logistic and operational support regarding events and conference 3.Perform other relevant duties as assigned
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English and Chinese is required for the internship.
