JOB DESCRIPTION

Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is a leading protection agency with a mandate to protect, advocate and promote durable solutions for displacement affected populations.

DRC has been operating in Ukraine since 2014, currently DRC employs over 650 staff in Ukraine and will continue significant scale-up in 2024 to implement emergency response in the Protection, Livelihoods, Shelter/NFIs and Humanitarian Disarmament and Peacebuilding (humanitarian mine action) sectors, using direct interventions, support to duty bearers and civil society organizations (CSOs), and partnerships with CSOs. DRC will continue and adapt its durable solutions portfolio to the evolving context.

Overall purpose of the role:

Your main duties and responsibilities will be to conduct second line maintenance (daily, weekly, and scheduled maintenance/service,), attend and rectify minor/major breakdowns on the GCS 200 mechanical demining machine DRC HDP Ukraine staff to any location within area of operation in a safe and timely manner in accordance with HDP standard operating procedures (hereinafter referred to as the SOP) and the current regulations of the Representative Office of the Danish Refugee Council in Ukraine (hereinafter referred to as the DRC) and actively and readily available to be deployed to all tasks planned for the GCS 200 mechanical demining machine.

Main Responsibilities:

  • To receive minimum 21 days Mechanic refresher training to familiarize with Mechanic working standards and procedures according to DRC HDP SOP.
  • To ensure the GCS 200 machine is in a serviceable and operational condition and ready for operation the next day at the end of each working day.
  • To ensure all required necessary wear and tear spare parts and consumables are available in country.
  • To ensure all the required necessary daily use hand tools and workshop tools are available in the mobile workshop container/vehicle mobile workshop at the site where the GCS 200 machine will be operational.
  • To ensure correct and timely servicing/maintenance of the GCS 200 machine used in accordance with the original manufacturer specifications. This is to include:

-Daily checks, (first and last parade checks)

-Hour and elapsed time-based scheduled checks.

-Scheduled maintenance checks and servicing.

  • To be responsible and initiate timely fault finding and rectification.
  • To ensure that sufficient consumable material is available on the GCS 200 machine daily operations/work site, and this includes a minimum of:

-5 grease tubes

-200 litres of fuel

-Set of air filters

-Set of chisels (tiller)

-Set of chisel holders (tiller)

-Set of hammers and chains (flail)

-Set of chain holders (flail)

  • To be responsible for the timely record, report and document all faults/abnormalities on the GCS 200 machine to the Mechanical TA and OM.
  • To be responsible for ensuring the workshop and all workshop tools and other related Mechanical Demining Team tools are always well arranged, cleaned and in good working condition.
  • To be responsible for ensuring all Mechanical Demining Team documentation and paperwork is in order and correctly filled out e.g. daily/weekly/monthly log sheets, spare parts, fault reports, workshop contents.
  • To be responsible for the timely request of all required spare wear and parts, consumables, and tools.

Required experience and competencies:

  • Technical high school or equivalent desired.
  • Good, speaking, reading and writing skills required.
  • Should have at least 5 years’ practical working experience as light/heavy duty vehicle motor mechanic or a mechanic for other types of mechanical demining machinery or Earth-moving machinery e.g. Bulldozers, Front-end loaders, Excavators, Backhoe, Bobcat etc.
  • Knowledge and practical experience of electrics, hydraulics, and pneumatics required.
  • Light/heavy duty verified and approved/permitted driving license required.
  • Verified training certificates of previous work experience and knowledge required.

Preferably:

  • Preferably English.
  • Experience of working on a Humanitarian Mine Action Programme desired.

Contract length: 3 month renewable after satisfactory probation period.

Designation of Duty Station: Mykolaiv – Full time based
Start date: 1st May 2024.
