Your responsibilities
The physics experiments of the Large Hadron Collider are preparing to receive an unprecedented amount of data from the accelerator. To be able to process that data, the very latest computing techniques will have to be used, and new ones will have to be researched with the help of industrial partners. Join the ATLAS Experiment to develop core software for a next generation of physics data taking, for the benefit of all current and future High Energy Physics experiments!
The selected candidate will become part of the ATLAS Data Processing Group (EP-APD). They will take an active role in developing task scheduling techniques using the C++ language for efficiently dispatching data processing algorithms to heterogeneous computing resources. Ensuring that all available hardware resources (CPU, GPU, FPGA) in the next generation trigger system of ATLAS and the other LHC experiments could be maximally utilised by the trigger algorithms.
The candidate will work as part of the Next Generation Triggers program of CERN, a multi-year R&D project benefiting all of the LHC experiments.

What we offer
About us
At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world’s largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter – fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.
