DESCRIPTION OF ASSIGNMENT, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ENGAGED INDIVIDUAL CONTRACT HOLDER
General Background of Project or Assignment, Operational Context:
Since 2004, a new global French website is managed by the Global Senior Editor (French) in Geneva HQ at DER/Comms Service. Since then, the work has been considerably extended from the website only to a Global French Content including campaigns, social media, strategic comms, GRF, and AOB from the whole organization about French translation and editing needs. To answer to these needs, there is a critical need of external translators/editors.

The individual contractor will be solely responsible for taking out and for maintaining adequate insurance required to meet any of his/her obligations under the contract, as well as for arranging, at his/her sole expense, such life, health and other forms of as the individual contractor may consider to be appropriate to cover the period during which the individual consultant provides services under the contract. The individual contractor acknowledges and agrees that none of the insurance arrangements the individual consultant may make shall, in any way, be construed to limit the individual consultant’s liability arising under or relating to the contract.
Obtaining proof of mandatory medical evacuation insurance is a precondition for the issuance of a contract. The individual contractor’s health insurance must be valid for the duty station and any other duty station(s) to which the contractor is expected to travel during the engagement. It must provide adequate coverage. The individual contractor must submit an attestation to UNHCR prior to the signature of the contract, certifying that this insurance covers travel related illnesses, injuries and medical evacuation.
UNHCR has no responsibility for any costs connected to insurance or medical evacuation of the individual contractor.
As of 01 September 2023, it is mandatory for all UNHCR personnel to be FULLY vaccinated against Covid-19 prior to undertaking mission travel to duty stations with C, D and E hardship classification.
Purpose and Scope of Assignment:
Concise and detailed description of activities, including measurable outputs and delivery dates, impact indicators (what qualitative and quantitative results would be achieved upon completion of individual contract), performance indicators (timelines, value of the service rendered in relation to the cost, timeliness) and work plan:
• Under the supervision of the Senior Editor (French) in GCS/DER, the French external translator will:
• Translate/self-edit landing pages, news (press release, briefing notes, web stories, special features), crisis, campaigns (posters, slogans, flyers, landing pages, micro websites, brochures, key messages, internal information….), strat comms (brand book and other reports) and AOB
• Use appropriate, readable and user-friendly language and change the structure of the sentences if needed, while remaining faithful to the original English version.
• Proofread the texts to avoid repetition; check grammar, syntax and style.
• Verify the different expressions/acronyms/references to ensure consistency
• throughout the document using UN terminology and the glossary.

Required qualifications, language(s) and work experience:
Degree: Required
Specify: A bachelor’s degree in translation
Field of expertise, competencies:
Required/mandatory:
• French native speaker.
• Familiar with UN and UNHCR rules and regulations for translation/ editing/proofreading.
• Excellent writing and grammar skills.
• Strong research and fact-checking skills to ensure accuracy and originality.
Desirable:
• Flexible and accommodating with regard to working hours and time pressure.
Minimum years of work experience (NOTE: candidates with less years of experience cannot be short-listed or recommended):

EVALUATION, MONITORING, SUPERVISION
Monitoring and Progress Controls
