Since 2001, the UNDP programme in Cyprus has been delivering mainly EU funded interventions, to support Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots on confidence building measures by encouraging dialogue and cooperation, and supporting the development of environmental, economic and social infrastructure on the island.
As such UNDP in Cyprus provides a diverse package of programmatic services to a range of partners which contribute to building a conducive environment for the peace process. In particular, the implementation of confidence building measures contributes to the building of trust between the two communities while demonstrating to the public at large that the communities can work together on critical issues that are of importance to all inhabitants of Cyprus across three focus areas:

- Improving environmental, social and economic infrastructure
The Technical Committees were established by the leaders of the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot communities under the auspices of the United Nations, to address issues that affect the day-to-day life of people, through encouraging and facilitating greater interaction and understanding between the two communities.
UNDP is seeking a local Technical Assistant to work jointly on a part time basis to support the development of a mechanism for exchanging island wide experiences and information between experts on environmental issues in Cyprus.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the overall guidance of the Project Manager and in collaboration with the Co- Chairs of the Technical Committee on Environment, Technical Assistant will carry out the following tasks;
Support with the production and development of content for the website including:
- Setting up a database of Cypriot environmental experts to be featured in the website;
- Draft content for the website including information about island wide environmental issues;
- Sharing of public information regarding the key outcomes from the environmental assessment visits both on the website and on social media;
- Share regular updates and information about the work of the Technical Committee on Environment through online platforms
- Provide regular updates and maintenance of the website
- Support with the carrying out of Environmental Assessment Visits
- Support with the organization and implementation of environmental assessment visits with the participation of key experts
- Organize meetings with the Technical Committee members and key experts for presentations of observations/findings resulting from the environmental site visits
- Assist in the identification and recommendation process of “priority areas” for the development environmental proposals
Production of reports and recommendations for addressing island wide Environmental issues:
- In close consultation with Project Manager produce draft technical reports with the findings from the visits including draft recommendations.
- Share and monitor information regarding key outcomes that emerge from the Environmental Assessment Visits
- Support UNDP and the members of the Technical Committee with the preparation of project concept notes based on the “priority areas”
Support with the design and implementation of proposals addressing island wide Environmental issues:
- In close consultation with the members of the Technical Committee support with the production of new project proposals
- Support with the organizing of consultation processes with a variety of stakeholders for the development of new project proposals
- Support with the implementation of project proposals in accordance with UNDP Programme and Operations Policies and Procedures
- Maintain databases of key stakeholders
- Support with the maintaining of project specific data ad results
Under the overall guidance of the Project Manager, help with implementation of the Support Facility to Technical Committees:
- In close consultation with the members of the other Technical Committees support with the production of new project proposals
- Support with the organizing of consultation processes with a variety of stakeholders for the development of new project proposals
- Support with the implementation of project proposals in accordance with UNDP Programme and Operations Policies and Procedures
- Any other relevant task that may help in implementation of Support Facility to Technical Committees projects and activities.

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
- Secondary education
- Bachelor’s Level Degree in an Environmental discipline including Biology, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Ecology or equivalent would be desired, but it is not a requirement.
Experience:
- Five years of graduate relevant work experience would be required
- Alternatively, if in possession of Bachelor’s degree, two years of relevant experience would be required
Required skills:
- Proven experience in the usage of computers and office software packages (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc), experience in office and collaboration software packages and knowledge of spreadsheet and database packages, experience in handling of web-based management systems is required (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneDrive, Teams, Outlook and SharePoint).
Desired skills in addition to the competencies covered in the Competencies section:
- Experience in project monitoring, events management and organization, PR & Communication, project proposal preparation will be considered an asset
- Experience in projects related with environmental topics in Cyprus is an asset
- Experience working in bi-communal projects will be considered an asset
- Knowledge of UNDP rules and regulations context will be considered an advantage.
Other:
- Nationals or others legally authorized to work in Cyprus.
- Valid driving license.
- Ability to travel to environmental sides island wide.
