Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Russian Translation Section (RTS) of the Conference Management Service (CMS), Department for General Assembly and Conference Management (DGACM) in Vienna. CMS operates administratively under the Division for Management (DM) at the United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV). Responsibilities
Within limits of assigned authority, the Language and Desktop Publishing Assistant (Russian) will be responsible for the following specific duties: • Perform desktop publishing functions, including incorporating corrections and formatting documents, as well as creating tables, graphics and organization charts, in desktop publishing formats, in accordance with existing guidelines. • Perform proofreading functions by checking successive versions of edited and translated documents against previous versions, as appropriate, in accordance with existing guidelines. • Assist the Team Leader, Programming Officer or equivalent Officer, as needed, in the assignment of jobs, keeps track of jobs in progress and assist in ensuring the smooth electronic transmission and processing of documentation. • Participate, as a member of a team, in the production of parliamentary and miscellaneous documentation, supplements and sales publications, by preparing desktop publishing layout of the final product in relevant language for reproduction in hard copy and electronic dissemination. • Compile and scope final documents against the submitted document. • Perform other desktop publishing functions developed through workflow reviews. • Assist in providing statistical input and reports, as guided. • Perform, under supervision, the full range of office support, administrative and clerical functions, as required. • Handle queries, maintain attendance, and keep records as needed. • Work effectively in presential, remote, or hybrid teams, as needed. • Actively seek to learn from feedback and develop own skills and knowledge relevant to the job, especially through guidance and self-study. • Undertake cross-assignments to perform, under guidance, other language support functions, if required. • Make effective use of relevant language technologies and tools, and show willingness to learn new software, as needed. • Stay available for assignments and shifts, depending on the exigencies of service, including outside normal working hours. • Assist with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making. • Assist with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures. • Perform other related work as required.

Education
High school diploma or equivalent. A recognized first-level university degree (Bachelor’s degree or equivalent) may be accepted in lieu of two years of required work experience. Additional formal training in desktop publishing or a related field is desirable.

Work Experience
A minimum of three years of progressively responsible experience in desktop publishing or a related field is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to one for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. Experience in draft typing, copy editing, formatting, proofreading and creating typographical layouts, is desirable. Experience working with different software for processing of documents and publications is desirable. Experience with a documents production system is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the post advertised, an excellent command of Russian (fluency), including grammar, spelling and usage is required; very good working knowledge of English is required; knowledge of any other United Nations official language is desirable.
Assessment
Evaluation of qualified candidates may include an assessment exercise and a competency-based interview.
Special Notice
This position is temporarily available until for six months with possibility of extension. If the selected candidate is a staff member from the United Nations Secretariat, the selection will be administered as a temporary assignment.
